It was not just bull-bucking, steer-wrestling action that brought spectators to their feet at the Broome Rodeo last Friday.

The crowd went wild when one rider jumped off his horse and dropped to his knee in the middle of the arena, beckoning his girlfriend to come forward as a romantic song boomed through the speakers.

Matt Wood's proposal to Constance Gray set the scene for the rest of the rodeo, with both rider and spectator spirits running high.

The 3000-strong crowd was kept entertained with an impressive performance from Ramoan Neho, who won the steer wrestling and open bull ride.

Jessie Evans brought it home for the girls in the ladies barrels, Michael Stanley was the saddle bronc champion and up-and-coming star Chance Bedford claimed top spot in the poddy ride.

Kit Le-Vere set the crowd off with his admirable effort in the bareback event, claiming first place in what was arguably the toughest event of the evening.

One rider was thrown over the fence and into the crowd during the event, though spectators managed to clear the path and remain injury free.

A bull got the better of rodeo clown Daniel Kimber, who sustained the only injuries of the night and was taken to hospital with a broken collarbone and dislocated knee.

Broome Rodeo Club president Todd Walsh was thrilled with the event, which he described as a replica of last year's spectacular return.

Funds raised from the event will be injected into improving the grounds for next year.
