The sex lives of backpackers

Youth hostels are far from the most romantic place, but a new study shows one in five backpackers admit to having a bouncy cuddle in a hostel dorm.

It’s one of the many saucy findings of the Travel Sex Lives Laid Bare survey of 11,000 travellers around the world.

The survey by website HostelBookers.com asked all manner of personal questions, from ‘have you had a threesome on holiday?’ to ‘do you always use protection?’

While 22 percent of respondents said they’d had sex in a hostel dorm, not all of them managed to be discreet about it; Four percent of those surveyed got caught in the act.

The survey also delved into the perceived “hottest nationalities” for each sex. Men reckon women from Russia, Poland and Colombia are the hottest out, while women prefer Irish, Australians and British.

Then there are those nationalities with a reputation for being hard to get – and it’s the Germans who win in this department, with 14 percent of respondents reckon they’re the toughest nuts to crack. This was followed by British (11 percent) and French (10 percent).
