A 38-year-old woman who crashed her car into a moving freight train while under the influence of alcohol will be sentenced later this month.

The woman pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving causing bodily harm when she appeared in Geraldton Magistrate’s Court today.

She failed to stop at the railway crossing on Edward Road, Narngulu on December 14, 2013, crashed through the lowered boom gates and into the side of a freight train.

Her Ford Focus was dragged for several metres.

She was convicted in April of driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.130 at the time of the incident.

She suffered a fractured sternum, ankle and wrist as a result of the crash and a male passenger in the vehicle also sustained serious injuries.

Both had to be transported to Perth for medical treatment.

She will be sentenced on August 14.
