Bolivia as you have never seen it before
Spectacular photos by two artists of witch doctors and masked women show Bolivia in a mystical new light.
Artists Thomas Rousset and Raphaël Verona wanted to capture Bolivia’s diversity and mysticism and travelled across the Altiplano region of Bolivia in order to do it.
The result is a series of photographs that show the depth and flamboyance of the Bolivian culture and the traditional practices that make it distinct to other parts of South America.
The landlocked country has an entrenched religious history coupled with a vibrant and modern youth culture. The combination of the two became the setting for a series of artworks that show a country like it has never been seen before.
The photographs take centre stage in a new book titled Waska-Tatay, published by Idpure-éditions and features traditional costumes, rites and totems alongside more modern technologies.
Mobile phones, electrical cords and plastic trash bags sit equally alongside the more traditional forms of Bolivian culture. The juxtaposition of both the old and the new demonstrates the shifting and evolving identity of the country as its youth looks to globalised culture for new influences.
