Pro Hart painting stolen from Broken Hill

A Pro Hart painting worth $20,000 has disappeared from a business safe in the NSW outback town of Broken Hill.

The artwork was last seen displayed in the local business on June 13 before it was put into an unsecured safe for storage.

The painting of grasshoppers on a shrub was discovered missing on Monday when the safe was checked.

Pro Hart, considered to be the father of the Australian landscape painting movement, is famous for his paintings that capture the spirit of the Australian outback.

The artist died in 2006.
