Agenda, parks, cars on agenda

Geraldton’s participatory budgeting community panel and the City executive’s review of the panel’s 42 recommendations shows both arms of the process are on the same page, except not fully.

The executive’s report for next week’s council meeting says it “fully agrees” with 17 of the recommendations but only “partially agrees” with the remainder.

It says the partial agreement to 25 of the recommendations is “on the basis of effectiveness and efficiency.”

Receiving the nod from both sides is increased service in asset management, rubbish collection including recycling, and maintenance of leased City buildings.

The executive agrees with decreased service at the Aquarena over the winter months, and backs a recommendation to review the number of vehicles required by the City.

Among other things, it offers partial agreement to a reduction of maintenance and care of parks and turning less-used parks into nature reserves.

The report, tabled at this week’s agenda forum, will come before the full council with a recommendation it endorse the executive’s response and calls for an investigation into alternative options on the points with which the executive only partially agrees.
