The common misconception there is nothing to do in Baldivis is set to be quashed on Sunday when newly formed Baldivis Events Inc launches its first community event.

The group, which formed five weeks ago, was sparked by City of Rockingham Baldivis ward Cr Matthew Whitfield to create a greater sense of community inclusion and vibrant events for the booming suburb.

Group president Lee Downham, one of nine board members, said the first event was about showcasing what Baldivis had to offer.

“We are always seeing comments on Facebook by people asking questions about what they can do in Baldivis,” he said.

“Our first event is about showing people what activities and groups are already available in the area.”

He said the day would highlight 19 sporting groups, social groups and groups seeking volunteers.

Mr Downham said creating fun events was also about helping bring the community together.

“We want to get people to know each other — some people don’t even know their own neighbours,” he said.

Vice president Yakira Wyatt said she jumped on the event bandwagon because she wanted to see more things happening in Baldivis.

“We want to create events that target all ages — teenagers, the elderly, young adults and families,” she said.

Mrs Wyatt said the event would include a quick survey for residents to fill out to help steer the events organised.
