Team shows some spirit
If you've ever had problems with cupboards opening and closing unexpectedly, inexplicable moans coming from your house, or ghostly apparitions frightening you or the children, now might be the time to contact Hedland's new ghost-busting organisation.
The Pilbara Paranormal Team started last month and at a recent meeting they poured over photos and audio recordings taken from earlier investigations.
Of particular interest was a strange whisper heard at the school in Cossack.
During the investigation, group founder Sarah Sharkey asked an empty room: "If there's somebody there, can you please tell me?"
"Somebody," was the faint, disembodied reply that was heard.
The sound was picked up on a digital audio recorder - one of a variety of tools used to investigate the supernatural including broad-spectrum cameras and a K2 meter, which detects electromagnetic fields.
PPT member Kristie Thomas said it was strange to be in a room with no electricity and see the K2 meter go off.
"Mind you, you have to be careful, it's happened before and we realised Sarah had left her phone in the box with it and it was going off every time the phone looked for reception," she said.
Ms Sharkey set up the group after using social media to find out if people had any haunting experiences in the area.
"I didn't think so many people would respond," she said.
"We've got a list of different houses to investigate now and we need more equipment to really get the ball rolling.
"We have four digital video cameras on order so when they arrive we'll be able to set them up in parts of the house where things have happened and let them record all night."
The team claim no religious affiliation, but are swayed by the belief that paranormal disturbances are due to residual energy left over from the deceased.
Ms Thomas said the group was serious and took all responsibility for things that happened while they were investigating on someone's property.
