Community raises funds for fire victim

The community of Ipswich is rallying behind an Iraq war veteran who lost everything when his house burned down.

The house was badly damaged and the fire also destroyed the returned ex-serviceman’s medals.

It's believed an electrical fault in the garage of the home, triggered an explosion on Saturday night.

Scott and his wife Susan had lived in the house for less than a year, but they had moved to the are so he could be closed to specialist treatment for a brain injury he'd received while in the line of duty.

Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale, says it's important for the country to get behind Scott Gardiner.

'He's given us the service and the sacrifice through the military and it's about time we came back and helped him out,' he said.

An immediate payment of $2,000 to the couple tomorrow by the Mayor's Communtiy Fund.

Anyone who wants to help can donate through the Ipswich Mayor’s Community Fund Inc. and referenced Scott Gardiner.
