Sydney traffic chaos after bus, taxi crash

Sydney drivers have faced traffic gridlock this morning, with two major incidents causing massive delays at opposite ends of the city.

There was chaos on the Sydney Harbour Bridge after a taxi and bus collided, around 8am.

Authorities said four vehicles were involved in the accident on the Cahill Expressway, just past High Street at Milsons Point.

The crash caused heavy delays for peak-hour commuters, and queues of up seven kilometres.

Emergency services on the scene assessed dozens of passengers and said there were no major injuries.

An ambulance spokesperson said a pregnant woman was on board the bus, and was taken to hospital.

Motorists are being urged to allow for extra travel time.

Meanwhile, a fruit truck fire on the M4 Motorway at Eastern Creek caused a horror run to work for eastbound commuters.

The fire had blocked two lanes of city-bound traffic, with queues up to 13 kilometres and delays of up to five hours.

Truck driver Ken told 7News that he pulled over and by the time he walked around to the front of his vehicle the flames started.

"I've just done a wheel bearing coming into town, so I've heard a couple of noises, pulled over to inspect and I had a lot of excessive heat," Ken said.

"The flames started so I hoped in my prime mover and got my prime mover away, and the flames got bigger and burnt me (sic) trailers".

He said he's happy no one was injured and he managed to escape unharmed, but said it could have been a lot worse.

"That's all that matters really, that no one was hurt," he said.

"It slowed traffic down for a couple of hours but at the end of the day everything's okay and people moved on."

All lanes have been reopened.
