Extra adventure for Lake Argyle event

There were more than 50 Adventure Race participants last year.

Fans of the Lake Argyle Adventure Race are set for an even bigger treat than usual this year after organisers announced the event would be held over three days.

The race's new course was unveiled at the launch of the event on Friday, with the hope it would attract more interstate entrants.

Organiser Glenn Taylor said a free mountain bike race would take place on the tracks near the Lake Argyle Resort on Friday, September 5, acting as a warm-up event for competitors.

"Saturday will see the teams line up for the swim 2km, run 9km, mountain bike 36km and paddle 7km," he said.

"Teams can be made up of two to four members and they race the course in relay format, with one member from each team completing each leg.

"Saturday will conclude with the gala dinner and teams presentation function."

While the teams party hard on the Saturday night, the individual competitors are bound to be carbohydrate-loading for the following day's Solo Adventure Challenge.

"A new course will see competitors swim, paddle, run and mountain bike in the terrain around Lake Argyle," Mr Taylor said. "Highlights of the course will be the down-river paddle and a true off-road run.

"I have spent a lot of time scouting out the course in order to ensure the kayak goes down the Ord River and the run covers some of our most spectacular scenery.

"To attract competitors to travel to the east Kimberley, you need a unique experience and this course will provide adventure-seekers with that amazing opportunity."
