The team at Chemmart Pharmacy Superstore Geraldton are calling on the community to take part in their ‘Blood Pressure Challenge’ event tomorrow.

Chemmart Pharmacies throughout Australia will host the event, offering people a free blood pressure test.

The ‘Blood Pressure Challenge’ day is being set up in conjunction with the National Stroke Foundation following the release of alarming statistics that show one in six people will have a stroke in their lifetime.

Chemmart Pharmacy Superstore Geraldton manager Michelle Goode said high blood pressure often went unnoticed as people rarely showed symptoms.

“Lots of people can have high blood pressure without even knowing it, as often there are no noticeable symptoms and it is not something you feel,” she said.

“The test is very simple and not painful. On top of that it’s free.

“This way people can know where they stand with their blood pressure levels, and if they’re abnormal we can refer them to a doctor and help them to take control of it.”

Mrs Goode said high blood pressure could also raise a risk of serious health problems including stroke, heart attacks and kidney disease.

She said all of the community could take advantage of the free service because high blood pressure can affect both the young and elderly.

“This service is for anyone and everyone, so if you can take some time out of your day to get the test and take the challenge, do it!” she said.

To support the cause people are also asked to purchase a $5 solidarity string bracelet to help raise funds for the National Stroke Foundation.

To take the test you can find a Chemmart stand at Queens IGA on Wednesday, April 2, from 10am to 2pm or visit the Chemmart Pharmacy Superstore on Marine Terrace or Bluff Point for the free service throughout the day.
