260k hours, campus on track

The Department of Health says the new Busselton Health Campus is “on schedule” for completion late this year.

Contractor Doric has up to 140 trades personnel on site, supported by 25 administrators and supervisors.

More than 260,000 man hours have been worked so far and the construction program is around 65 per cent complete.

Busselton Health Campus Redevelopment project co-ordinator Rory Stemp said the main building structure had been completed and was nearly at lock-up stage and watertight.

“The focus of construction is now on wall sheeting, glazing, ceilings, floors, vinyl, painting, cabinetry and finishes, ” he said.

Service diversions for the new road are also being final- ised.

“Filling and compaction of the area has commenced prior to layout of the road and installation of the traffic lights, ” Mr Stemp said.

“The intersection is on schedule to be completed in the middle of the year.”

Key activities will now be the installation of the mechanical plant and finalising the interior works. The building and its systems will then be tested throughout the commissioning phase.

Mr Stemp said “excellent communication and co-operation” between Doric and health service staff had kept services operating smoothly.

“All services are being maintained on the campus and, when necessary, the builders have changed the timing of work, altered the direction of construction traffic and, on one occasion, delayed activities that could have adversely affected health service operations, ” he said.
