Night music adds to Burrup beauty
Hearson's Cove was filled with music last Friday night as the Crossing Roper Bar Tour came to Karratha.
The collaboration between the Australian Art Orchestra and the Wagilak Gujarra/ Nyilapidgi artists has played shows at various points along the Roper River in October.
The tour started in Darwin and then moved through Kununurra, One Arm Point, Djarindjin/Lombadina, Beagle Bay and Broome before arriving in Karratha.
The show features classic and contemporary music styles with elements of jazz, country and blues, combined with traditional Wagilak song.
Guest musician Stephen Pigram said Friday's show was one of the finest of the tour.
"I just rejoined the tour, and will join again in Perth … this place is beautiful, one of the best settings," he said.
"The welcome to country gives you a bit more of a feel for a place.
"The band, the singers, were really relaxed … my style of music, more country blues, is different with the jazz …"
Tura New Music artistic director Tos Mahoney also praised the Hearson's Cove location.
"We have played at many places … the setting, along with the involvement of the elders and the history of the Burrup, this is one of the best," he said.
