Mums dress up for tea party

Mums of Mandurah group members Nicole Gill, Stephanie Butler and president Kimberley Paton enjoy a cup of tea.

Tea cups clinked for a cause last month as more than 200 Mandurah women gathered for the Mad Mums of Mandurah Tea Party.

The annual fundraising event was held by Mums of Mandurah Incorporated and raised more than $9000 for Ovarian Cancer Australia.

President Kimberley Paton said the tea party was the group’s major annual event which aimed to bring women in the Mandurah community together, and raise money for charities close to the hearts and lives of all women.

“Each year we hope to not only raise funds for our chosen charity, but to also raise valuable awareness about the particular charity and its cause,” she said.

“The tea party brings together all the words of our logo — connect, support, inform, inspire and empower.”

Mrs Paton said women went all out with their attire frilling up for the dress up theme “fabulous frills” wearing a range of brightly coloured dresses, tops and headpieces.

“It was an afternoon of fabulously frilly fundraising fun,” she said.

Mrs Paton said an inspiring part of the day was listening to guest speaker Michele Librizzi talk about her experience with ovarian cancer.

“Michele, now three years cancer free, graciously shared her experience — the afternoon was certainly a celebration of her triumphs,” she said. Mrs Paton said guests enjoyed a performance by musician Chelsea J Gibson, and a fashion show by Mandurah Metro Modelling Academy.
