Smiling wife caught telling hit man murder was 'easier than divorcing husband'

Shocking video has emerged of a smiling and laughing young wife telling a hit man that she wanted her husband killed.

The conversation, which took place in a parked car, was secretly filmed by the hit man who was in fact a Michigan state police detective.

"Terrible as it sounds, it was easier than divorcing him," 21-year-old Julia Merfeld, who has two children with her husband, can be heard telling the man.

"I didn't have to worry about the judgment of my family. I didn't have to worry about breaking his heart," she continued.

"It's going to break my heart when it happens, but it's something that I've been thinking about for a while."

Merfeld offered to pay the hitman $50,000 for the murder but explained she couldn't pay the total sum upfront as she needed to wait for her husband's health insurance to pay.

When questioned on how she would like the murder committed, Merfeld suggests staging a break-in.

However she retracts this statement after realising a robbery may deter a girlfriend from moving into the home with her.

'Really whatever's easiest,' she says while giggling.

'The most painless way you can possibly do it. I don't care about anything else. Just make it painless.'

Merfeld also specifies she would prefer her husband killed outside as it would be 'too messy' inside the home.

According to the New York Daily News Merfeld has since pleaded guilty to solicitation for murder.

Merfeld faces a minimum of six years in jail.
