Bus crashes into home on NSW Central Coast

UPDATE: Investigators believe a bus driver suffered a heart attack before crashing his bus into a home on the the New South Wales Central Coast on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency workers were called to the scene of the crash on Greenfield Road at Empire Bay where a two-storey townhouse took a direct hit from the bus, killing the driver and injuring 13 others.

A man who was inside the building sustained serious head injuries and is in a critical condition in hospital.

A woman also inside the home is being treated for minor injuries and distress.

Neighbours say they heard the screech of brakes and then two almighty bangs, shaking surrounding houses.

The bus driver was pronounced dead at the scene but remained trapped in the wreckage for several hours.

Fire and rescue have been trying to prop up the building to make it safe.

The bus, which had earlier departed from Busways’ Kincumber Depot, was carrying eleven passengers when it careered into the home.

Investigations into circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.
