The Melbourne Mustangs took the mantle of Australian Ice Hockey League champions after defeating the Melbourne Ice 6-1 in the grand final, with Mustangs goalie Michael James celebrating the victory with one hell of a photo.

The Mustangs have every right to be celebrating not only their grand final win, but also local bragging rights over the much more established nemesis Melbourne Ice.

The Mustangs, who have only been in existence for four years, making their playoff debut this year, capped of a phenomenal season where they also claimed the minor premiership for the first time.

For the Melbourne Ice it was a bitter pill to swallow, but their three championships in the past 12 years make the changing of the guard in Melbourne still some way off.
