Andrew Strauss calls Kevin Pietersen a c--- on air

Saying sorry doesn't turn back time, nor the microphone off, though former England cricket captain Andrew Strauss wishes it it would after calling Kevin Pietersen a "c---" while on air for Sky Sports commentary.

Strauss was commentating on the Lord's bicentenary match between MCC and the Rest of the World and, thinking the mic was off, described KP as a "c---" to fellow commentator Nick Knight.

Australian viewers were the first to pick up on the expletive via a Fox Sports continuous feed of the Sky commentary, but UK viewers were unable to hear it.

Strauss said he was was "mortified" and "profusely sorry" for making extremely offensive comments about his old Test teammate.

"I apologise unreservedly, particularly to Kevin Pietersen. I am mortified and profusely sorry," he said.

His employers also issued an apology: "Earlier comments were made during a break in play which were heard overseas. We apologise for the language used," a Sky Sports statement read.

Television show host Piers Morgan - a close friend of Pietersen - called for Strauss to be sacked.

"After all, Strauss himself axed KP from his England team for allegedly saying similar things about him that weren't even broadcast," Morgan wrote on Twitter.
