Schumacher being sued for Spanish road crash

Michael Schumacher is being sued by a motorcyclist who says the Formula One legend knocked him from his bike just weeks before the skiing accident that left him fighting for his life.

Schumacher has been accused of failing to give way at a roundabout in Spain, near Seville and colliding with the anonymous motorcyclist.

The rider is claiming compensation for a broken wrist and damages to his clothes, motorbike and watch on November 17, says a report in the Mirror and various Spanish media outlets.

A police accident report appears to claim that Schumacher failed to respect his alleged victim’s right of way in the incident.

But a trial would only take place if insurers contest the claim.

The 45-year-old Schumacher remains in hospital in the French Alpine city of Grenoble in an induced coma after the December 29 accident in which he slammed his head on a rock while skiing in Meribel.

There have been some very small indications of progress recently with Schumacher showing moments of consciousness and awakening.

His family said at the end of January that drugs used to keep him in his deep sleep were being reduced with a view to bringing him back to consciousness.

And last month, Schumacher's family said they were confident that the racing legend who defied death more than once on the track would pull through.

Schumacher survived a motorbike accident in Spain in 2009, during which he suffered head and neck injuries but was released from hospital after just five hours.

And even after retiring from the high-risk world of racing, he kept pursuing other high-thrill hobbies as the holder of a pilot's license, an accomplished motorbike rider, parachutist, skier and mountain climber.
