Benji Marshall could return to league: report

Wantaway star Benji Marshall looks set to return to rugby league this season after reportedly coming to an agreement with Blues coach John Kirwan that his big switch to union wasn't working out.

Marshall, who has barely played for the Blues so far this season, could be courted by teams like Melbourne, Brisbane Parramatta, Cronulla and St George Illawarra if he does make the switch back, Fairfax reported.

It was reported that the former Tigers player was willing to bide his time in union, but moves were reportedly already underway to get a release so he could leave the code.

The New Zealand Rugby Union board would have to sanction any possible break from union by Marshall.

Farfax reported that Marshall had been given the choice of either playing lower level rugby union to hone is skills in anticipation of playing in the Super Rugby in 2015 or returning to rugby league.

The clock is ticking on any possible move this year, with the June 30 deadline not far away for teams being able to register players.

Marshall played 201 games for the West Tigers before making the decision to leave league to play union in New Zealand.

He has captained New Zealand, and played in the Rugby League World Cup.
