Cristiano Ronaldo pays for young boy's brain surgery

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo went above and beyond a humble charity request when he offered to pay for a young boy’s brain surgery.

Ronaldo, a father of one, was asked to donate a jersey and his football boots for a charity auction raising money for Erik Ortiz Cruz, a 10-month old suffering from cortical dysplasia. The rare condition causes seizures up to 30 times a day.

The Real Madrid star came through with that request, but then went one step further, covering all costs of the expensive brain surgery to remove the abnormal part of the young child’s brain.

The procedure costs €60,000 (AUD$92,000) and tests are around €6,000 (AUD$9,000) each.

It’s not the first time the Ballon d’Or winner has shown exceptional generosity.

Two years ago Ronaldo assisted in paying for treatment of a young cancer patient in Spain.

The striker does a lot of charity work with children in his native Portugal too.
