Woman who dumped newborn on a plane 'was raped'

A woman who gave birth to a baby and then dumped it in a bin claims she was raped by her employer, media reports say.

Earlier this week cleaners sweeping through a Gulf Air passenger jet that landed at the Philippines' main international airport reportedly found a newborn baby dumped in a toilet room bin.

On Wednesday a 30-year-old woman was found in the Apayao area of the Philippines after investigators set out to find the person who sat in a bloodstained seat on the plane.

Officials conducted DNA tests to ensure the woman is the mother, but the results will not be known for at least a month.

The woman, who is Filippino, claims she was raped while working as a maid in Qatar.

According to reports the admission of pregnancy to her boss resulted in a sacking and she was subsequently forced to return home to the Philippines.

The woman allegedly gave birth on the plane, and afterwards abandoned the child because she was afraid of what her family would say, a representative, Lani Mercado, reportedly said.

Airport officials said the baby was bluish in colour when discovered and that it was close to death. They allege it may have died within a few minutes had it not been found.

The baby boy was still attached to the placenta and was found wrapped in tissue paper.

According to reports the child has been temporarily named George Francis after Gulf Air's flight code GF.

The woman is said to have been shown a picture of her child and is reportedly very eager to see her baby.
