Boat survivors expected at Christmas Island

The survivors from a boat which sank in Australia's search and rescue zone are expected to arrive at Christmas Island today.

It's believed 39 people were on board the boat, which went down on Sunday, about 600 kilometres north-west of the Cocos Islands.

27 men were rescued by a nearby ship, the LNG Pioneer.

The men, believed to be from Sri Lanka, are being taken to Christmas Island , where they'll undergo health and identity checks
