Australian television reporter Peter Lloyd has been jailed for 10 months in Singapore over drugs charges.

The ABC journalist was accused of possessing and using methamphetamine.

Lloyd was in Singapore on leave when he was arrested by narcotics officers in July, after being caught with a small amount of the drug.

Prior to his arrest, he was the face of the ABC's coverage from India and Pakistan, appearing regularly on the network's nationally broadcast daily news.

Singapore imposes severe penalties for drug use and possession, including a mandatory death penalty for anyone caught with more than 15 grams of heroin or more than 500 grams of marijuana.
