The teenager killed by a train in Sydney's inner-west was reportedly cut in half during the horror rail accident, 7News reports.

On the day of tragedy, the Toman family spoke out warning others of the dangers of graffiti and the consequences it can have.

"It's not worth jumping on train tracks and risking your life for something, for artwork." Sade Toman, Tre's aunt told 7News.

"It's a tragedy for all of our family and I'd just like to say for all those young boys out there, just stop." Robin Williams, Tre's grandfather said.

7News reports the family discovered the news of Tre’s death via Facebook, before police notification.

Tre Toman, 18, was found dead in the tunnel of the West St overpass at Lewisham railway station on Wednesday night.

Police arrived at the scene following reports that a train driver had hit something.

It is understood the teenager was spray painting graffiti in the tunnel with friends when the accident happened.

"Nothing we can do about it. Just a part of life, you know. At least he died doing something that he loved. That's it." Toman's friend told 7News.

The male train driver and guard were breath tested and returned negative readings.
