The story of a banker who was caught looking at raunchy pictures on his computer during a live broadcast has made headlines around the world.

The worker was seen in the background during a 7News live cross to Macquarie Bank's Shelley Street headquarters.

Viewers were being updated on the interest rate decision, but the banker talking about the news was upstaged by a man who appeared to be flicking through photos of a scantily clad woman. Reports suggest one was a picture of supermodel Miranda Kerr.

The worker seemed to look at one photo for a few seconds, before closing it and returning to his work or emails.

After looking at another, he turned around and looked straight into the camera.

A Macquarie statement said the bank "takes matters such as the unacceptable use of technology extremely seriously.

"Macquarie has strict policies in place surrounding the use of technology and the issue arising from today's live cross on 7News is being dealt with internally," it said.

The story has reached the United States, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The UK's Daily Mail reports, "..the bank employee decided to spice up his shift a little."

The video has also been posted on YouTube.
