The Queensland Government says it may shut down schoolies activities on the Gold Coast earlier on some nights this year.

Premier Anna Bligh says official schoolies events on Friday and Saturday nights will still run until 2:00am (AEST).

But Ms Bligh says weeknight celebrations may end at midnight.

"This will be a decision that will be made night by night on the ground by police and by local council officers," she said.

"This is about trying to get the mix right and protect young people while still ensuring they have a great time."
