Tourist in hot water over hot springs trip

Northern Territory Police say 13 people were caught drink-driving overnight, including a man who tried to go extreme four-wheel-driving near some hot springs.

Police say five of the 13 people caught around the Territory were in the highest range.

A 33-year-old man at Yarralin had a blood alcohol level of 0.221 per cent, almost five times the legal limit.

In Katherine, police charged a 22-year-old tourist from Western Australia after he tried to go four-wheel-driving down a steep cliff face near Katherine hot springs while drunk.

The man had two passengers in the car and was eventually persuaded to stop.

Police say it was a very dangerous act and they could easily have been killed.

The man recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.137 per cent.
