There are concerns budget cuts to Tasmania's Parks and Wildlife Service will put pressure on volunteer brigades this fire season.

The service has to shed jobs to cope with a budget cut of 16 per cent and needs to lose 30 positions to make up for the budget shortfall.

The Minister Michelle O'Byrne said the government is looking at other funding options to strengthen the service's firefighting ability.

"Everyone has had to take their share of the pain and parks has not been excluded from that or immune from that," she said.

But the opposition's spokesman Rene Hidding said losing trained fire-fighters will ultimately put pressure on volunteer services.

"The wonderful Tasmanian volunteers in the fire fighting effort are already at full capacity," he said.

In Tasmania, frontline responsibility is shared between the Tasmanian Fire Service, Forestry Tasmania and the Parks and Wildlife Service.
