A 16-year-old will stand trial for the murder of a Sydney teenager who was stabbed on a train.
The 17-year-old died after being stabbed in the chest during a fight between two groups of teenagers on a train near Campsie railway station in December last year.
A 16-year-old teenager has been committed to stand trial after pleading not guilty to his murder.A lawyer for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has told a commital hearing at Parramatta Children's Court that the victim threw the first punch but the defendant was prepared and had been holding a knife in his pocket before the attack which lasted for just a few seconds.
The accused teenager's lawyer said the stabbing was in self defence.
