The WA Greens are again urging the Federal Government to establish a national scheme to recycle drinking containers.

The WA Greens Member for Fremantle Adele Carles has presented the Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett with a petition of more than 2000 signatures in support of a national scheme.

The Greens want a national model based on the successful South Australian scheme to be rolled out across the country.

Ms Carles says recycling drinking containers would have significant benefits for the environment.

"Survey after survey support the fact that the vast majority of Australians want this implemented as a priority," she said.
