Man jailed over death of pregnant teen

ABC November 5, 2009, 11:09 am

A 27-year-old man has been sentenced to nine years in jail over a car crash that killed his pregnant friend three years ago.

Sarah Booth, 17, died instantly when a car driven by Nathan Unwin hit a tree and burst into flames at Carrum Downs.

The Victorian County Court heard Unwin had taken a corner too fast and was being pursued by police when he crashed.

In sentencing, the judge said Unwin was driving outrageously and had a high level of drugs in his system.

He will serve a minimum of six years.
