Members of the Country Fire Service (CFS) say failings of the state's emergency services communication system are being kept quiet by the South Australian Government and CFS management.

Fire volunteer and Adelaide doctor Bruce Paix says he has been trying for two years to bring problems in the system to the attention of officials.

Dr Paix says systematic flaws mean the ambulance service and police are being called to road crashes sometimes an hour before fire crews are notified.

He says the flaw in the Adelaide call centre system is putting lives at risk, but the Government and heads of the emergency services are doing nothing about it.

"I've spoken to all the top-level managers in all the appropriate services and I've also spoken to the Emergency Services Minister and quite frankly none of them are capable of fixing it, it would seem," he said.

"It's horrific, there are cases there where there's been a train crash where there's been a half-hour delay.

"I've seen a school bus crash with multiple children injured [where services] didn't turn out for more than half an hour."

Under the Road Crash Rescue Agreement, emergency services are required to notify each other of a crash, where possible, within five minutes.

Dr Paix say he thinks lives may have been lost because of delays.

The CFS and the SA Government have not responded to the claims.
