A homeless man in Darwin says the Northern Territory Government's plans to build emergency accommodation for the needy may have come too late.
The Government is spending $1 million to build emergency short-term housing made from demountables for the growing number of homeless people in the Territory.
Jack says he has been homeless for six months. He says living on the streets during the rains is close to unbearable and the Government should have done something for the needy months ago.
"It may be a little be too late at the moment," he said."I guess hypothetically they should've planned that months ago - prepare like in any emergency.
"And as you quite aware it is a major crisis in Darwin and it is going to get worse."The Housing Minister, Rob Knight, says there were problems getting the money for the project but the demountables will be up as soon as possible.
