A 50-year-old Hobart man has appeared in court on charges relating to child prostitution.

Gary John Devine of Moonah was charged under the same investigation that saw Tasmanian politician Terry Martin charged with child sex offences.

The 51-year-old Upper House MP appeared in court last week on three charges including sexual intercourse with a young person, and producing and possessing child exploitation material.

Devine appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court this afternoon on charges including rape, being the operator of a sex business and receiving a fee for a child providing sexual services.

Devine did not enter a plea and his application for bail was refused.

He is due to appear in court again next week.
