Several West Australian parents have contacted police worried their children may have had contact with a camp counsellor accused of sexually abusing boys in the United States.
In a statement released on Wednesday, WA police said child abuse squad detectives would interview the children to determine their contact with 25-year-old Scott Zirus.
Zirus, from Pinjarra, south of Perth, appeared in the District Court in Kerr County Texas for arraignment on Monday accused of molesting three boys at a Texan camp.He faces charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child and continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14.
US authorities said Zirus had confessed in videotaped interviews to sexually assaulting two boys at a Texan camp.Zirus entered not guilty pleas to all charges during the court appearance, did not seek bail and a trial was set for March 9.
He was working at a camp in the US as part of an international exchange program.WA police urged any parents concerned over their child's contact with Zirus to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
