Tasmanian police have charged a Hobart man with bringing a young person into prostitution.

Police say it is the first time charges have been laid under the Sex Industry Offences Act.

A 50-year-old man from Moonah was arrested today and will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court this afternoon.

He will face charges including having sex with a young person, being an operator of a sexual services business, permitting sex with a young person on the site and receiving a fee from sexual services provided by a child.

The Glenorchy CIB says the child was taken into care when it began investigating the matter.
