Shooting victim Fadi Ibrahim has cried with relief after being granted bail in a Sydney court.

The 35-year-old was arrested in September and accused of trying to murder a former associate.

Ibrahim was shot five times outside his Castle Cove home in June and has had his stomach removed and suffered nerve damage to his arm.

His lawyers argued that he was not getting proper medical treatment in jail and may need further surgery.

The court heard that Ibrahim was on a range of painkillers and a special diet that includes Rice Bubbles and yoghurt.

He said a prison nurse had to go out and buy jellies and custard because there was no other food he could eat.

A Supreme Court judge said the crown did not oppose bail, and his bail conditions include $1 million surety.

The judge ordered Ibrahim not to contact his co-accused, including his brother Michael Ibrahim.

He also imposed a curfew from 8.30pm to 6am.

If Ibrahim breaches bail conditions, a family member will have to forfeit the bail money.

A supporter in the court punched the air and said "yes" when the decision was handed down.

Ibrahim, who appeared via videolink, burst into tears with relief.

Outside court his lawyer, Brett Galloway, said he was not getting the right medical care in jail.

"They're unable to sustain the level of treatment he requires and it will be a long time before he goes to trial." he said.

He said Ibrahim can now focus on preparing his defence.
