The">/>The Labor member for Pilbara Tom Stephens says the Alice Springs hospital is turning away dialysis patients from remote communities across the border in Western Australia.

Mr Stephens is lobbying on behalf of a resident of the Kiwirrkurra community, who has been forced to travel 1800 kilometres to Kalgoorlie for treatment after he was told the Alice Springs hospital was full.

Mr Stephens says the WA health minister must come to an agreement with his Territory counterpart.

"And I'm calling upon the health ministers of both jurisdictions the Northern Territory and Western Australia to get on with it," he said.

"Put the protocol back in place and make sure that this patient who is in urgent need of dialysis, that he gets access to dialysis without any further delays."

The WA Health Department says current patients are being treated in Alice Springs, but there's no room for new patients until the dialysis unit is expanded.
