The former principal of a NSW boarding college has been committed to stand trial on charges of sexual misconduct at the school in the 1980s.

Peter William Dwyer, 65, of Bellingen, faces 12 charges, including committing an indecent act, relating to incidents that allegedly occurred at St Stanislaus College in Bathurst during the 1980s.

The former priest originally faced 14 charges but two were withdrawn during the committal hearing process.

Dwyer pleaded not guilty to the charges in the Downing Centre Local Court on Friday.

"I'm not guilty and I reserve my defence," Dwyer said.

Magistrate Judith Fleming committed Dwyer to stand trial and his matter will be mentioned in the Downing Centre District Court on November 13.
