A trumpet player who lost his teeth is just one person who has been helped by Support Act, a charity which helps musicians doing it tough.

Music industry personalities gathered at NSW Parliament on Wednesday for the organisation's annual Music in the House fundraising luncheon to give a hand up to those in the business who have fallen on hard times.

Among the faces at the event was Brian Cadd, who is also Support Act's director, Glenn Shorrock, Ian Moss and Shannon Noll.

During his 40 years in the industry, Cadd says he has seen many people who needed help, ranging from ageing musicians to injured roadies.

"There is a lot of people (in the music industry) who really need some help, serious help, sometimes life-saving help," he said.

Minister Assisting the NSW Premier on the Arts Virginia Judge hosted the luncheon and said musicians often had to do it tough to make it in the industry.

"A career in the music industry can be a tough slog, spending long hours on the road or following the pub circuit in a bid to make it in the industry," she said.

Aussie rocker Richard Clapton was presented with an award at the luncheon for his community support.

"Richard has performed free-of-charge at many events to help raise funds for those in need," Ms Judge said.
