Police have called on the public to help them find a missing sedan central to their investigation of the murder of a 63-year-old inner-Sydney man last week.

Yutian Li, 21, from Hurstville, appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Sunday, charged with murdering Ian Craigie at his Glebe unit on September 24.

Li is also charged with eight counts of obtaining a benefit by deception, with police saying he used Mr Craigie's keycard to withdraw thousands of dollars from his bank account.

Police say they are now looking for Mr Craigie's beige 2001 Mitsubishi Magna sedan, with registration XUR-780, which they believe is linked to his death.

A search of the inner-city and Hurstville failed to find the vehicle, Detective Senior Constable Terry King said.

"We're appealing to the public to help us widen the search by being our eyes and ears," Det Snr Cst King said.

"We're also hoping to speak with anyone who might have seen the car in either the Glebe or Broadway areas between 11am (AEST) and 7pm on Sunday 20 September."

"It is however very important that if someone does locate the vehicle that they don't touch it so any forensic evidence can be preserved.

He urged anyone with information about the missing sedan to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
