The Liberal party have called on the state government to increase parking facilities at across metropolitan bus interchanges, saying that commuters are often unable to get a park at the Paradise interchange after 8 am.

"If the government wants people using public transport, then it's important that they provide the facility for people to be able to use it," Opposition Leader, Isobel Redmond said.

"This is an issue, it's an issue up in my area, Mount Barker got a new interchange about 18 months ago, and it was instantly filled to capacity."

"The only option is to look at going up, where there is no land to expand," she said.

"At the moment, people have to travel some hundreds of metres from where they can park, just to get to this interchange (Paradise) and indeed across a very busy road."

"An upgrade of Paradise Interchange's car parking facilities is a necessity."

The state government had previously announced upgrades to parking at the Klemzig and Tea Tree Plaza interchanges.

Minister for Transport, Pat Conlon said there are currently 475 parking spaces in the Paradise interchange, with an additional 400 leased from the Paradise Community Church across Darley Rd.

"That gives a capacity of about 850, and the usual demand is about 700," he said.

"I think the opposition are losing the plot on public transport, we have put more money into public transport than any other government."

"We have increased the number of parking spaces by something like twenty percent in park’n’rides since 2006."
