The suicide of a young soldier who had been bullied by other soldiers and was also a Scientology convert will be probed by a defence commission of inquiry starting on Monday.

In October, Brisbane coroner John Lock found there was nothing to suggest that bullying and harassment in the army was instrumental in 30-year-old Edward Alexander McBride's decision to end his life.

A defence inquiry to be held in Brisbane will probe whether there were any defence-related circumstances surrounding the death of Mr McBride, who was found hanging from a rope at the Energex substation in Brisbane's Everton Park on February 7, 2007.

The cause of death was found to be electrocution.

The coroner is expected to make further formal recommendations once the defence inquiry is completed.
