Severe thunderstorms are again threatening parts of southeast Queensland.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Lake Boondooma, west of Gympie.

The slow-moving thunderstorms are likely to bring damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones, the bureau said.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of Queensland's Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.

Parts of the Darling Downs, west of Brisbane, were savaged by hail on Thursday night as 30,000 lightning strikes were recorded across southeast Queensland.
