Assistance is being made available for pastoralists affected by dust storms across South Australia in late September.

Gale-force winds left a trail of destruction affecting roads and properties and forcing pastoralists to agist stock.

Landowners can apply for grants of up to $14,000.

The manager of Billa Kalina station north-west of Roxby Downs, Colin Greenfield, says he faces a damage bill of about $50,000.

He says the storms were a "once in a generation" event and deserving of disaster funding.

"What I'm disappointed in the most is that we had a lot of people say "OK well we'll see what we can do" in terms of ministers and shadow ministers federally and locally but no-one's come up and had a look at some of these properties just to see first-hand the damage," he said.

"We've sent photos in but they don't really convey what it's like."

Twenty-two pastoralists who responded to a government survey do not meet the eligibility criteria for federal natural disaster funding.
