Della Bosca wants another chance

Two months after he resigned as a government minister over an extramarital affair, John Della Bosca wants a second chance at public life.

Mr Della Bosca has reportedly spent $20,000 on polling to gauge the support for him taking over as premier.

In an interview with Fairfax Media the former health minister said it was possible to be premier from the upper house - given Barrie Unsworth had done it.

Mr Della Bosca also told the Sydney Morning Herald he had plenty to offer the public.

"I understand the communities of NSW and their aspirations and I also think above all else, this is a unique time of opportunity...despite how tough it is," he said.

"We've got a Commonwealth Government committed for the first time really since the Keating government left office ... to remaking the way in which services are provided for people."

"We can remake the Federation. That's something that's another important nation building opportunity which I want to be part of."

Asked how his marriage to Belinda Neal was following his resignation, Mr Della Bosca replied he was "happily married".

He stopped short of confirming he was after Premier Nathan Rees' job when asked to confirm or deny if he had commissioned $20,000 worth of polling that he would have some backing for premier.

"People do polling for all sorts of reasons," he said.

"I've been dealing with opinion polls for a very long time ... one thing ...(I) would suggest you can (not) determine (good) political leadership ... on the basis of polling. That would be a big mistake for anybody."
