Army explosives experts were called in to dispose of two grenades discovered on a farm in northeastern Victoria on Thursday afternoon.
The grenades were found as a family cleaned out a shed on a property at Carboor, southeast of Wangaratta, about 1pm, police said.
They are thought to have belonged to a relative who died almost 50 years ago.
One of the grenades was determined to be safe to transport to the army base at Bandiana, near Wodonga, but the second had to be detonated with explosives at the property.
