A man in southeast Queensland has been charged with lighting a fire in a total ban area and assaulting a firefighter who tried to put it out.
A police spokesman says the 33-year-old man had an open fire on his property at Gin Gin, south west of Bundaberg, on Tuesday night, despite a ban due to extreme bushfire danger.
When rural firefighters spotted the fire they tried to put it out."He refused them entry to his property and during an incident one of the fire officers was struck by a log," the police spokesman said.
The spokesman said it was not clear how it happened, but the log may have been pushed onto the fire officer, who sustained minor injuries. The man was charged with assaulting a public officer, obstructing a public officer and contravening a fire ban.
He will appear in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on November 6.
